Windows 8 does have a hibernate option, although you may not see it because it is not enabled by default. When you use Windows-I to bring up the Settings Charm, clicking on the Power button will only reveal the option to “sleep”, “shutdown”, and “restart”.

We will show you how to add the “Hibernate” option to this menu.

1. Go to the Windows 8 Control Panel by right-clicking on the lower-left corner of screen.

2. In the “Category” view of the control panel, click into the “Hardware” category.

3. Then under “Power options”, click “Change what the power button do”.

4. In the “System Settings” screen make sure you scroll down to the bottom. Then you can checkmark the hibernate option…

If the checkbox is disabled and will not let you change it, you have to scroll back to the top of the page and click the link that says to “Change settings that are currently unavailable”…

5. Save changes and now you have the hibernate option…
